BESSIE M. SMITH

Bessie Mae Smith, lovingly known by her family and friends as "Bessie," 83, formerly of Britthaven of Goldsboro, died on Sunday at Wayne Memorial Hospital, Goldsboro.
Ms. Smith was born to the late Ben Eddie Lewis and Francis Hargrove. Bessie was preceded in death by her late husband, Jupiter Smith. Also, she was preceded in death by four brothers, Samuel, Joe, David and Columbus; three sisters, Laura, Armelia and Elizabeth.
Funeral services will be conducted on Friday, Dec. 28, 2007, at noon from the Saint Delight United Holy Church, 976 LaGrange Road, Parkstown Community, LaGrange, N.C., with Bishop Leamon Dudley officiating. A viewing will be held Thursday, Dec. 27, 2007, at Hamilton Funeral Chapel, 423 S. James St., from 6 to 8 p.m. Burial will follow the funeral on Friday, Dec. 28, 2007, in Wayne Memorial Park, North, Goldsboro, N.C.
She is survived by one son, George Smith of Baltimore Md. Also, she leaves a memorable and remarkable niece, Shirley Jones of Dudley, N.C.; two sisters, Portia Smith of Dudley, N.C. and Lucille Worrells of Brooklyn, N.Y.; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends
The family will be receiving friends and other family members at the home of Shirley Jones, 110 Mooreallen St., Dudley, N.C.
