DUDLEY -- The Rev. Ben Frank Harvey, lovingly known by his family as "Rev," 91, passed away Friday at Wayne Memorial Hospital, Goldsboro, N.C.

The Rev. Harvey was born in Halifax County to the late Jessie Harvey and Malissie Caudle Harvey Cox. He was one of eight siblings in which all preceded him in death. As a child, he received Christ and started his preaching ministry at the age of 16. He was the founder and pastor of Stafford Chapel Church of Christ in Washington, D.C. and Mount Calvary Church of Christ in Warsaw, N.C. He was a hard worker and a dedicated family man. While in North Carolina, his trade was farming. Later he moved his family to Maryland where he retired from Ceco Fence Company and afterwards moved back to North Carolina.

Funeral services will be conducted Friday, Dec. 21, 2007, at 11 a.m. at Moses Chapel Church of Christ in Faison, N.C. Pastor Kendall Clark and Bishop Chester Aycock will officiate. A viewing will be held from 4 to 7 p.m., Thursday, Dec. 20, 2007, at Garris Funeral Home in Mount Olive, N.C. The family will be present from 6 to 7 p.m. to receive friends. Interment will follow the funeral services on Friday, Dec. 21, 2007, at Wayne Memorial Park Cemetery, Dudley, N.C.

He is survived by his wife, Eldress Annie Ruth Harvey; five daughters; Edna Vanderhorst and husband, Johnny, Malissia Hill and husband, Richard, all of Dudley, N.C., Frances Shearod and husband, Marvin, of Goldsboro, N.C., Pearline Barksdale of Warsaw, N.C., and Jeanette Walker of Ocala, Fla..; two sons, Franklin Harvey and wife, LaVern, of Dudley, N.C., James Harvey and wife, Sandra, of Warsaw, N.C.; 28 grandchildren; 50 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren; one sister-in-law, Doris Harvey of Newport News, Va.; several nieces and nephews, including one special daughter, Lillie Frasier Peele and husband, Dennis, of Goldsboro, N.C.; and a host of other relatives and friends.
