Carey Leslie "Chap" Chappell, 78, died Thursday afternoon at Kitty Askins Hospice Center in Goldsboro surrounded by his family. He was a retired Master Sgt. with the United States Air Force. Chap was also a retired real estate broker in Goldsboro.

Funeral will be held Sunday at 3 p.m. in the chapel of Miller Funeral Home, 304 Main St., Gatesville. Burial will follow in Cool Springs Baptist Church Cemetery in Eure with military honors.

Carey is survived by his wife, Deloris Johannsen Chappell; his daughter, Michelle D. Chappell of Reidsville; his sons and daughters-in-law, Carey Russell and Ka'thy Chapell of Richmond, Va., Terry Blaine and Victoria Chappell of Durham and Charles Leslie Chappell of Rutherfordton; his step-son and step-daughter-in-law, Craig and Katherine Hansen of Mount Olive; his step-daughter, Karen and Fred Littlejohn of Fayetteville; his sisters, Phalina Stebbins of Pennsylvania and Emily Horton of Winton; and his brother, Thurman Chappell of Winton. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Alethia Chappell, Blaine Chappell, and Cape Chappell; and his step-grandchildren, April Fulcher, Brittany Hansen, Ashley Hansen, Joshua Hansen, Jordan Hansen, Sean Dilda, David Littlejohn and Scott Littlejohn; and one step-greatgrandson, Myles Hansen and one step-greatgranddaughter, Madison Littlejohn.

Chap was preceded in death by his wife, Alethia Casper Chappell; two sisters and six brothers.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Kitty Atkins Hospice Center, 2402 Wayne Memorial Drive, Goldsboro, N.C. 27534.

The family will receive friends Saturday from 6-8 p.m. at Seymour Funeral Home, 1300 Wayne Memorial Drive, Goldsboro, N.C. and other times at his home, 105 E. College Street, Mount Olive, N.C. 28365.
