SAMUEL ALTMAN JR.

Samuel Altman Jr., lovingly know as "Sammy Jr.," son of the late Samuel Altman Sr. and Nettie Lee Altman, was born on July 6, 1930. He departed this earthly life on Oct. 6, 2007. He was preceded in death by two sisters, Gerald Altman and Layuria Williams; and two brothers, Raymond Lee and James Edward Altman. He attended school in Four Oaks, N.C. He became a member of Bentonville Disciples Church at an early age, where he enjoyed singing with the church's male chorus. He was a devoted and active member until his health declined.

He was married to the late Nellie Bowden Altman with whom he was blessed with two children, Janice Smith and Arlinda Raiford and husband, Tony, all of Goldsboro, N.C.; two grandchildren, Sherelle Wofford and husband, Stefan, of High Point, N.C. and Mia Smith of Roswell, Ga.; one great-grandchild, Terelle Wofford of High Point, N.C. He was married to the late Fannie Altman of Goldsboro, N.C.

Funeral services will be conducted on Thursday, Oct. 11, 2007, at 1 p.m. from the Western Assembly Disciples Headquarters, 9766 U.S. Highway 701 South, Newton Grove, N.C., with Elder M. Deron McLamb presiding. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, Oct. 10, 2007, from 2 to 8 p.m. at Hamilton Funeral Chapel, 423 S. James St., Goldsboro, N.C. Also, a wake will be conducted, Wednesday evening, Oct. 10, 2007, at Hamilton Funeral Chapel from 5 to 6 p.m. with the family present to receive friends and other family members. Interment at Atkinson Family Cemetery, Bentonville, N.C.

He leaves to cherish his memory two aunts, Ann Altman of Faison, N.C., and Sarah Wilson of Bridgeport, Conn.; a number of nieces and nephews, one of which he helped raise, Jessie Dillard; and a host of other relatives and friends.
