Died Sept. 5, 2007

SEVEN SPRINGS -- Bettie Mae Barwick Hardy, 88, of 4650 N.C. Hwy. 903 North, died Wednesday at Lenoir Memorial Hospital.

She retired as a clerk with Roses Department Store with over 30 years of service. Mrs. Hardy attended Sandy Plain F.W.B. Church in Beulaville. She loved attending her great-grandson Jeremy's baseball games. A loving caregiver to her family she will be remembered as a gentle and caring soul, much like Princess Diana. She was the daughter of the late William K. and Ella Susan Worley Barwick. Mrs. Hardy was also preceded in death by her husband, James J. Hardy; an infant son, J.C. Hardy; and two brothers, Willie Van Barwick and Stanley Byrd.

Funeral services will be held at 7 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 7, 2007, from the chapel of Garner Funeral Home with pastor David Smith officiating. The family will receive friends immediately following the service on Friday evening and other times at the home.

Survivors include her daughter, Betty Ann Waters of the home; her granddaughters, Patty Turner and husband, Johnny, of Kinston and June Thomas and husband, Devery, of Beulaville; her sister, Gladys Hardy of Seven Springs; great-grandsons, Jeremy Thomas and Clayton Turner and wife, Rhoda; and several special nieces and nephews.

Interment will be at 2 p.m. on Saturday from the Hardy Family Cemetery, Seven Springs.
