MARY B. THOMPSON

Mary Byers Thompson, 87, died Sunday at Brian Center of Goldsboro. Born in Augusta, Ga., she was the daughter of the late James Locke and Mamie Steedley Byers and was married to the late Leonard C. Thompson. A member of Madison Ave. Baptist Church, she was an insurance agent and was previously employed with Wayne Realty and Insurance Co. She was also a member of the Wayne County Insurance Association.

A graveside service will be held Wednesday at 11 a.m. at Wayne Memorial Park, with Dr. Talmadge Williams officiating.

She is survived by a daughter, Rosemary Kane of LaGrange; a son and daughter-in-law, Leonard Weston and Mary Lee Thompson of Green Cove Springs, Fla.; brother, W. H. Byers of Panama City, Fla.; grandchildren, Leonard Weston Thompson Jr., Sandy Sugg, and Russell Byers Thompson, all of Raleigh, Dee Sugg of Goldsboro and Randy Sugg of LaGrange; great-grandchildren, Elizabeth Ann Thompson and Leonard Weston Thompson III, both of Raleigh; three stepgrandchildren, Shelvia Riggs of LaGrange, Gwen Wade of Kinston and Felisa Parker of Wendell; and special friends, Peggy and Donnie Nipper and Bud and Jenny Herring of Goldsboro. She was preceded in death by a grandson, Jonathan Crowell Thompson.

Family members will greet friends immediately following the graveside service at Shumate-Faulk Funeral Home. Flowers are welcome, and the family requests that memorial gifts be directed to Madison Ave. Baptist Church, 300 S. Madison Ave., Goldsboro, N.C. 27530.
