JAMES A. 'BUD' WALSTON

Oct. 10, 1928-Aug. 19. 2007

James Alton "Bud" Walston, 78, passed away on Sunday, ending an extensive battle with heart disease. A native of Greene County, he was the son of the late Samuel Stephen and Eva Vaughn Walston. A retired sales manager of Pepsi Cola Bottling Company for 39 years, he was a member of First Free Will Baptist Church of Goldsboro.

A veteran and avid golfer, he was involved in a number of civic and charitable organizations including: Goldsboro Golf Club, Walnut Creek Country Club, Goldsboro Host Lions Club, Goldsboro Elks Lodge, American Legion, Veteran of Foreign Wars, and the Boys and Girls Club of Wayne County.

Bud is survived by his wife, Janet Rhodes Walston of the home, and his daughter, Patricia Lynn Walston of Raleigh. Other survivors include a brother, Charles Edward Walston of Snow Hill, and sister, Evelyn Walston Ross of Goldsboro, as well as several nieces and nephews.

Memorial services will be held on Tuesday, Aug., 21, 2007 at 10 a.m. at First Free Will Baptist Church, with the Rev. John Hill officiating. A private burial ceremony will be at Wayne Memorial Park.

The family will receive friends at the residence, 603 Handley Acres Drive on Monday evening from 6 to 9 p.m.

The family wishes to thank friends and the staffs of Wake Medical Center, Wake Medical Heart Failure Program and the Kitty Askins Hospice Center for the support and assistance they have provided.

Flowers are welcome and memorial contributions may be made to First Free Will Baptist Church Endowment Fund, 604 E. Ash St., Goldsboro, N.C. 27530.
