MOUNT OLIVE -- Olivia Smith Herring, 87, died Friday at Kitty Askins Hospice Center in Goldsboro surrounded by her children.

A service to celebrate her going home will be held Monday at 3 p.m. at Pink Hill Funeral Home in Pink Hill with the Revs. Leland Heath and Linda Grider officiating. Interment will follow at Oakridge Memorial Park. The family will receive relatives and friends at Pink Hill Funeral Home from 6-9 p.m. Sunday and at other times at the residence, 1281 White Flash Road, Mount Olive. Flowers are appreciated or memorial donations may be made to Woodland United Methodist Church, c/o Tom Hroza, 1647 White Flash Road, Mount Olive, 28365, or to Kitty Askins Hospice Center, 2402 Wayne Memorial Drive, Goldsboro, 27534.

Mrs. Herring was born in Albertson in Duplin County to the late Dunn and Gertie Smith. She was preceded in death by her husband of 50 years, Leland Carlyle "Buck" Herring, her brothers and sister-in-law, Ambrose L. Smith, Louise H. Smith and Coy W. Smith. She is survived by a sister-in-law, Tessie S. Smith of Albertson.

She is survived by five children and children-in-law, Carlyle and Judi Herring, Pretence and Jackie Herring, Curtis and Penny Herring, Sandra H. and Nick Lee of Mount Olive and Christy Enos of Wilmington; 10 grandchildren and seven grandchildren-in-law, Dean and Beverly Lee, Angie and Al Kennedy of Mount Olive; Leland and Melissa Herring II, Leigh and Tate Soles of West Palm Beach Fla., Morgan Herring of Raleigh, Chad Herring of Mount Olive, Lindsey and Jake Bryant of Wilmington, Rachel Herring of Greenville, Jimmy and Ann Enos of Wilmington and Pam and Wayne Brazelton of New Bern; 14 grandchildren, Justin and Parker Kennedy, Nicole, Nicholas and Lauren Lee of Mount Olive, London, Isabel and Ransom Soles, William and Tyneisha Herring of West Palm Beach Fla., Bryce Brazelton of New Bern, Kaleb and Tessa Bryant, and Justin Stoever of Wilmington.

Also surviving are her special Smith and Herring nieces and nephews and her faithful caretaker of three years, Janet Lowery.

Pallbearers are nephews, Ambrose "Butch" L. Smith Jr., Eddie Jay Lee, Robert "Bob" Kornegay, Jeffrey Howard, and Dana Lewis.
