COL. DONALD MCCULLOUGH

LUBBOCK, TEXAS -- Retired Col. Donald J. McCullough was born April 25, 1934, in Emmettsburg, Iowa, to Camilla L. and Hollis C. McCullough. He was called by his Lord Jesus on July 9, 2007, at his residence in Lubbock, Texas, at the age of 73.

Don graduated from Garner High School in 1952 and was a 1958 graduate of the U.S. Military Academy at West Point, N.Y. On June 5, 1958, in Highland Falls, N.Y., he was married to Margaret Mary Davis. Later, in 1972, he received an M.B.A. Degree from Arizona State University. During his 30-year career in the U.S. Air Force, he served in many capacities; from flying combat missions in Vietnam to serving as the Deputy Commander of Resource at Reese Air Force Base. Donald retired from the U.S.A.F. with the rank of Colonel.

Survivors include his wife of 49 years, Margaret Mary McCullough of Lubbock; two sons, Michael J. McCullough of Texas and James D. McCullough of North Carolina; three daughters, Theresa S. Merz of California, Michelle M. M. Demarest of Florida, and Pamela A. Appell of Maryland; a sister, Bonnie D. Mayhew of Maryland; a brother, Robert C. McCullough of Colorado; and seven grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents.

Visitation will take place on Friday, July 13, 2007, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Resthaven Funeral Home, 5740 W. 19th, Lubbock, Texas.

The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, July 14, 2007, at 11 a.m. at St. John Neumann Catholic Church in Lubbock. The Most Rev. Placido Rodriguez will be the Celebrant. Military honors will be performed by the honor guard from Cannon Air Force Base. Interment will take place on Wednesday, July 18, 2007, at 11 a.m. in the Post Cemetery at West Point, N.Y., with military honors by West Point. The family requests memorial contributions be made to the Donald J. McCullough Memorial Fund, Plains Capital Bank, 5010 University, Lubbock, Texas 79413.

Arrangements are under the direction of Resthaven Funeral Home of Lubbock, Texas.
