JOHNNY FLOYD MERRITT

Mr. Johnny Floyd Merritt, 71, of 124 Dallas Road, died Saturday morning at his home.
Mr. Merritt was born on Nov. 17, 1935, in Martin County to the late William Sam Merritt and Pinkie Augustus Warren Merritt. He was married to the late Peggy Lewis Merritt.
Mr. Merritt retired from teaching high school with 35 years of service and was a member of Trinity Baptist Church.
Funeral will be Sunday at 6 p.m. at Seymour Funeral Home Chapel, with the Rev. Stan Southerland officiating. Interment will be Monday at 11 a.m. at Wayne Memorial Park.
Mr. Merritt is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, John Michael and Cynthia Dawn Merritt of Wake Forest; brother, W.S. Merritt Jr. of Roanoke Rapids; and his granddaughter, Katelyn Elisabeth Merritt.
In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, William Earl Merritt and two sisters, Kathleen M. Joyner and Irene M. Leggett.
The family will receive friends from 4 to 6 p.m. Sunday at Seymour Funeral Home, immediately following the service and at other times at the residence.
