GEORGE S. HOLMES

MOUNT OLIVE -- George S. Holmes, known to most as "Peter Rabbitt", 81, died Saturday at his home at 626 Indian Springs Road.

Born in the Broadhurst Bridge section of Wayne County, he was the son of the late Albert and Florence Outlaw Holmes. He was of the Baptist faith and is best remembered as having owned and operated George S. Holmes Grocery Store in Mount Olive and George S. Holmes Used Cars in Mount Olive and in several other locations.

Graveside services are scheduled for Tuesday at 1 p.m. at Wayne Memorial Park near Goldsboro.

His family will receive friends at Tyndall Funeral Home from 7 to 8 p.m. tonight and at other times at the residence.

Mr. Holmes is survived by his wife of 57 years, Doris Witherington Holmes of the home; a daughter, Deborah Holmes Pabon of Mount Olive; a granddaughter, Larissa Pabon of the home; a son-in-law, Nelson Pabon of Mount Olive; a sister, Annie Mae Sautter of Mount Olive; and a brother, Milton Holmes of Burlington, N.C.

Along with his parents, a sister, Christine Murphey, and a brother, Harvey Holmes, preceded him in death.
