JEAN P. PRICKETT

Died April 9, 2007

CARTHAGE -- Jean Presnell Prickett, 75, died Monday at her home after a courageous battle with cancer. A native of Chatham County she was born to the late Guy and Marjorie Perry Presnell. She was preceded in death by a sister, Eula P. Hunley and brothers, Pete and Jimmy Presnell.

Memorial service arrangements are incomplete and will be announced at a later date.

While growing up she spent her childhood between Siler City and Panama City, Fla. A graduate of Woman's College (now UNC-G) and a member of the Alpha Delta Kappa Sorority for Women Educators, she taught fourth and fifth grade at Carthage Elementary School for 31 years. She was a founding member of the Carthage Historical Committee and the curator for the Carthage Museum. Always an active member of the Carthage United Methodist Church, she was part of the Carthage United Methodist Women, Hope Circle and recipient of the Methodist Woman of the Year award. She also received the Moore County Outstanding Citizen of the Year award by the Rotary Club of Carthage.

She is survived by her daughters, Lyn P. Austin of Seven Lakes, Kathy Prickett of the home; son, Turner Prickett III of Raleigh; sisters, Sadie and Midge Presnell and Dottie Agnello, all of Fleetwood; brother, Jesse Guy Presnell of Goldsboro; three grandchildren.
