JOSEPHINE OUTLAW
May 30, 1937-March 23, 2007
KENANSVILLE -- Josephine H. Outlaw, 69, 283 Hwy. 11 and 903, died Friday.
Mrs. Outlaw was the daughter of the late Roy Eugene and Mary Flowers Hatch of Mount Olive and the loving wife of Mr. Irvin Outlaw of Kenansville.
She was born in Mount Olive, where she lived until her marriage.
She was a member of West Duplin Free Will Baptist Church, where she took an active role in church functions and loved her church family.
She retired from the Duplin County Sheriff's Department after 25 years of service and was the first female to be sworn in as an officer in the history of the department.
Mrs. Outlaw was active in her community and was well known for her talent in crafts. She taught a cake decorating class at James Sprunt Community College and was most recently employeed at Blossoms Florist.
She is survived by her husband, Irvin of Kenansville; two sons, Mike Outlaw of Apex, and Thomas Outlaw of San Diego, Calif.; a daughter, Pam Padgett of Hampstead; three brothers, Rex Hatch of Mount Olive, Royce Hatch of Colorado, George Hatch of Wallace; four sisters, Mary Davis of Mount Olive, Joyce Hatch of Garner, Faye Wiggins of Mount Olive, Elaine Overton of Jacksonville; five grandchildren and one great-grandchild. She was preceded in death by a brother, Horace Hatch.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Monday at West Duplin Free Will Baptist Church. A visitation will be held Sunday from 5 until 7 p.m. at Community Funeral Home of Warsaw.
