Jan. 30, 1916-March 19, 2007

ROCKY MOUNT -- Joseph Bonnie Cogdell, 91, died Monday, March 19, 2007. He was born in Wayne County on Jan. 30, 1916 to the late Lewis Marion Cogdell and Louise Godwin Cogdell.

He was a retired manager of Heilig Meyers Furniture Company after 34 years and was a U.S. WWII Army veteran.

He was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day-Saints, where he was an active member, which included a two and a half year mission, where he and his wife worked at the Washington, D.C. Temple. He was also a lifetime member of the V.F.W.

Mr. Cogdell was extremely positive about life and kept his family entertained with his wit and humor. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather.

Left to cherish his memory are his loving and devoted wife of 59 years, Mildred Batchelor Cogdell of the home; daughters, Kathryn Page and husband, Michael, of Sharpsburg, Karen Greethurst and husband, Michael, of Enid, Okla.; son, Haywood Cogdell and wife, Brenda, of Nashville; grandchildren, Mark Cogdell, Eric Page, Wesley Cogdell, David Page, Morgan Page, Greyson Lowe, Katie Page. He was preceded in death by a son, David Cogdell of Rocky Mount, six sisters and four brothers.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, March 21, 2007 at 1 p.m. at Wheeler and Woodlief Funeral Home, 1130 N. Winstead Ave., Rocky Mount. Burial will follow at Wayne Memorial Park. The family will receive friends this evening from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at the funeral home and other times at the home.
