MOUNT OLIVE -- Charles Douglas Grady Sr., 63, 106 Birchwood Drive, died Thursday at Wayne Memorial Hospital.
Funeral services will be Saturday at 11 a.m. from the Tyndall Funeral Chapel, Mount Olive, with visitation following the service.
Graveside services will be
4 p.m. at Rocky Mount Memorial Park, Rocky Mount. The Rev. Paul Rose will officiate the services.
Mr. Grady, a Duplin County native, was raised on the dairy farm of his late parents, Robert Woodrow Grady Sr. and Inez Joyner Grady. His 361/2-year career with the railroad system began with Atlantic Coastline Railroads and ended with CSX Railroads where he was general manager of operations. He had been a resident of Rocky Mount for 21 years where he was a member of Sunset Avenue Baptist Church where he was a former deacon. For the next 18 years, his home was in Jacksonville, Fla., and upon his retirement he came back to Mount Olive where he became a member of the Faison Baptist Church where he was a member of the church men's brotherhood and was currently serving as chairman of the deacon board. He spearheaded the church bus project and was the founding chairman of the Faison Baptist Brotherhood Golf Tournament.
He is survived by his wife of 43 years, Kay Davis Grady of the home; sons, Charles Douglas "Doug" Grady Jr. and wife, Karla Kornegay Grady, of Mount Olive, and Brian Todd Grady and wife, Kimberly "Kim" Davis Grady, of Peachtree City, Ga.; five grandchildren, Matthew Todd Grady, Rebecca Ann Grady, and Jacob Tyler Grady of Peachtree City, and Evan Brock and Jenna Shae Grady, both of Mount Olive; brother, Larry Thomas Grady and wife, Claudia Braswell Grady, of the Rosewood community of Goldsboro; and sister, Lynn Grady Daly and husband, Bryant "Butch" Daly, of Mount Olive.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Robert W. "Bobby" Grady Jr. and his wife, Vonda Lee Herring Grady, along with his grandparents, Lewis Henry and Nannie Waters Grady and Lonnie and Myrtie Kelly Joyner.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be made to the Faison Baptist Church Building Fund, P.O. Box 280, Faison, N.C. 28341.
The family will be receiving friends at the residence when not at the funeral home.
