MOUNT OLIVE -- Gerald Franklin Malpass, 48, of 712 Bethel Church Road, passed away suddenly on Monday at his home.

Born in Mount Olive, he was the son of Wilma Bell Malpass of Faison and the late K.D. Malpass.

A member of the 1977 graduating class of North Duplin High School, he was a well-known building contractor, having been owner and operator of Malpass Construction for the past 25 years. He was a member of Faison Baptist Church.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday at Tyndall Funeral Home in Mount Olive with the Rev. Paul Rose officiating. Burial will be in the Jones Family Cemetery.

In addition to his mother, Mr. Malpass is survived by his wife of 26 years, Joy Jones Malpass of the home; three children, Corine Malpass Holmes and husband, Glen, of Goldsboro, Abby Malpass and Josh Malpass, both of the home; a granddaughter, Emma Holmes of Goldsboro; a brother, Dennis Malpass and wife, Melinda, of Faison; a granddaughter, Emma Holmes of Goldsboro; three sisters, Faye M. Jones and husband, Bill, Debbie Malpass, and Connie M. Kornegay and husband, Gerald, all of Mount Olive; parents-in-law, Kirby and Mary Jane Jones of Mount Olive; brothers-in-law, Timmy Jones and wife, Lisa, of Faison, and Matt Jones and wife, Tracy, of Mount Olive, and their families; special friends, Tom and Linda Gruebel of Mount Olive; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Along with his father, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Jackie M. Vernon and Meade M. Langston.

Visitation is tonight 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home; other times at the residence.
