WARSAW -- Walter E. Foster, 85, of 503 W. Bay St., Warsaw, died Thursday at Carrol S. Roberson Hospice Center in Feyetville.
He was born in Emporia, Va., to the late Eddie and Mittie Power Foster. He was a retired educator of Duplin County Schools and retired Mayor Protem for the town of Warsaw.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, and received the rank of first Sgt. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Warsaw, where he served on many auxiliaries.
Services will be held Tuesday at noon at First Baptist Church in Warsaw. Moderator, James A. Davis, will officiate. Burial will follow in the Devotional Gardens.
Mr. Foster is survived by his wife, Queen Foster of the home; seven daughters, Paula Price of Owing Mill, Md., Wanda Griffin of Riverside, Calif., Cheryl Tucker of Admore Pa., Andrea Furlow of Chapel Hill, Tonia Davis of East Elmhurst, N.Y., Kitza Smith of Durham, Claudia Kearney of Durham; a sister, Edna McGee of Emporia, Va.; one grandchild; and one great-grandchild.
A wake will be held Monday at the Rhodes Funeral Home Chapel from 7 until 8 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the First Baptist Scholarship Committee.
