Died Jan. 9, 2007

Lyman Berry Gardner, 69, died Tuesday at Kitty Askins Hospice Center.

A native of Wayne County, he was born the son of Lyman and Celia Parks Gardner. Mr. Gardner was retired from General Electric Carolina Welds. He was a member of New Hope Friends Church and had served his country in the U. S. Army.

An advocate of safe boating, he was a charter member of the Goldsboro Sail and Power Squadron serving as its Commander from 1999 - 2000. Mr. Gardner was also recognized as the outstanding member of the squadron in 1996, 2001 and 2005. He was also an active member for many years in the Kinston Power Squadron receiving its outstanding member award in 1991.

Funeral services will be Thursday at 7 p.m. at New Hope Friends Church with Bill Garner officiating. Interment will be Friday at 11 a.m. at Wayne Memorial Park.

Mr. Gardner is survived by his wife, Ina Faye Ipock Gardner; his son, Jamie Gardner and his wife, Mitzi, of Apex; and his grandson, Alex Gardner. He is also survived by his sisters and brothers-in-law, Dixie and Kenneth Ellis of Goldsboro and Linda and Malcolm Burris of Monroe; two nieces and two nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his infant twin granddaughters, Katlyn and Sydney Gardner; and his nephew, Andy Ellis.

Flowers are welcome or memorials may be made to New Hope Friends Church Building Fund, 4451 E. US 70, Goldsboro, 27534.

The family will receive friends Thursday following the service at the church and other times at his home.
