SIDNEY ALLEN TILGHMAN

Sidney Allen Tilghman, 78, a resident of Britthaven of LaGrange, died Friday evening at Wayne Memorial Hospital in Goldsboro.

Funeral services will be 7 p.m. today in the chapel of Howell Funeral Home and Crematory in Goldsboro, with the Rev. Tony McLamb officiating. A graveside service will be 11 a.m. Monday at Evergreen Memorial Cemetery in Princeton.

Mr. Tilghman was born in Duplin County to the late Albert Allen Tilghman and Della Lane Tilghman. He was a member of Walnut Creek Free Will Baptist Church.

He is survived by two daughters, Mary Lewis Speight of Mount Olive and Sandra Hix and her husband, Charlie, of Goldsboro; two brothers, Roland Tilghman Jr. and his wife, Cookie, of Kinston and Theodore Tilghman and his wife, Hazel, of LaGrange; three sisters, Eunice Wade of LaGrange, Barbara Tyndall of LaGrange and Carolyn Ferguson and her husband, Glenn, of LaGrange; and a brother-in-law, Fred Shivar of Kinston.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Elizabeth Lee Barfield Tilghman; and two sisters, Dorothy Mae Grady and Marilyn Pittman.

The family will receive friends following the service tonight at Howell Funeral Home and Crematory in Goldsboro and at other times at the home of his daughter and son-in-law, Sandra and Charlie Hix, 433 Dobbersville Road, Goldsboro.
