DEWITT HOWELL

George Dewitt Howell, 95, of the Patetown Community died Friday at Wayne Memorial Hospital.

Mr. Howell was born in Wayne County to the late Pee Dee Howell and Annie Killette Howell and was married to the late Thelma Horne Howell. He was a farmer and member of United in Christ Church. In 1978, he was named the winner of the hollering contest at Spivey's Corner.

Funeral services will be 4 p.m. today at United in Christ Church, with the Revs. Ira Williford and R. N. Williford officiating. Entombment will be 11 a.m. Monday in the Pee Dee Howell Family Cemetery.

He is survived by his daughters, Faye H. Person and her husband, Frankie, of Patetown and Evelyn H. Thompson and her husband, Louis, of Patetown; his sons, Kenneth Howell and his wife, Connie, and Billy Howell and his wife, Judy, both of Patetown; his sister, Flonnie Smith of Goldsboro; his brother, Cleatus Howell of Goldsboro; 19 grandchildren; and 18 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his daughters-in-law, Mary Howell, Kelly Howell and Fannie Howell; and a son-in-law, John Hodge.

He was preceded in death by his sons, Garland Howell, George Edward Howell and Gene Howell; his daughters, Peggy Howell and Claudette Hodge; his sisters, Maybelle Anderson and Ellen Busdieker; and his brothers Alton "Doby" Howell, Zeke Howell, Edgar Howell and Claude Howell.

Although flowers are welcome, memorials may be made to United In Christ Church, 1314 Patetown Road, Goldsboro, N.C. 27530.

The family will receive friends from 3 to 4 p.m. today at United in Christ Church.

Arrangements are by Seymour Funeral Home and Cremation Service.
