Died Dec. 28, 2006

WARSAW -- Melvin Buckram, 50, 124 W. Pierce St., died Thursday at his home.

He was born in Wayne County to the late Hebrew and Celia Hill Buckram. Mr. Buckram was an employee of Case Farms as a refrigeration mechanic, attended Wayne County Public Schools, and was a veteran of the U.S. Navy.

Funeral services will be Saturday at 1 p.m. at the Best Grove Missionary Baptist Church in Goldsboro with pastor Joe Jackson officiating. Interment will be in the Davis Cemetery.

He is survived by his wife, Ruthie Smith Buckram, of the home; one daughter, Melena Buckram of the home; three sons, Donald Matthis of Fayetteville, Danny Matthis of Raleigh, and Albert Matthis of Elizabethtown; two sisters, Ernice Hobbs and Peggy Bryant, both of Goldsboro; two brothers, Albert Buckram of Chesapeake, Va., and John Hill of Norfolk, Va.

Viewing will be tonight from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Rhodes Funeral Home Chapel, Warsaw. The funeral procession will assemble at 11:30 a.m. at the residence in preparation for the funeral service.
