WILLARD H. BRINSON SR.

KENANSVILLE -- Willard Hiram Brinson Sr., 91, died Tuesday at Duplin General Hospital in Kenansville. He was born to Amos Jones "Doc" and Cora Edwards Bostic Brinson.

He was a member of the Kenansville Baptist Church where he served as Secretary/Treasurer of Sunday School and on various committees. He was a charter member of the Kenansville Fire Department and retired after over 20 years of service. He served with Battery "B" of the U.S. Army's 170th Field Artillery Battalion during WWII and served the Duplin County school system for over 42 years as a bus mechanic and finally as supervisor of the school bus garage.

The family will have visitation today at Community Funeral Home, 1654 NC 50 and 24 Hwy, Warsaw, from 7 to 9 p.m. Funeral services will be Thursday at 2 p.m. at Kenansville Baptist Church, 114 Routledge Road, with the Rev. Mike Thompson and Angie Partin officiating. Interment will follow at Golden Grove Cemetery, Kenansville. All other times the family will be at the home of Willard H. Brinson Sr., 309 N. Main St., Kenansville.

He is survived by his wife of 23 years, Irene Matthews Brinson; daughter-in-law, Patricia Davis Brinson; two grandchildren, Davis Hiram Brinson and wife, Kristy Denise Brinson, Amy Brinson Hathaway and husband, Dennis Joey Hathaway; three great-grandchildren, Hunter Grey Hathaway, Ashley Nicole Parker and Lauren Taylor Brinson, all of Kenansville.

Mr. Brinson was preceded in death by a wife of 38 years, Alma Tucker Brinson; a son, Willard Hiram Brinson Jr.; four sisters, Annie Mae B. Blanton, Mavis B. Thigpen, Irene B. Miller and Florence B. Brown; six brothers, Clifton Jones Brinson, Woodrow Wilson Brinson, Maurice Edward Brinson, Amos Quinn Brinson, Lester Stuart Brinson, and Davis Norman "Jack" Brinson.
