LA GRANGE - Nannie Sugg Sutton, 88, 5582 Kennedy Home Road, died Thursday at Lenoir Memorial Hospital.

Mrs. Sutton was born in Greene County to the late Albert Thomas and Lydia Gray Sugg. She was wife of the late Robert Hardy Sutton Sr. and was a member of Hickory Grove United Methodist Church. A devoted farmer's wife and mother, she enjoyed cooking, gardening and working in her yard.

Funeral services will be today at 7 p.m. from Rouse Funeral Home with Pastor Adam Brinkley officiating. Interment will be Saturday at 10 a.m. from Pinelawn Memorial Park.

Mrs. Sutton is survived by three children, Bobbie Jo Sutton Laney and husband, Frank Linwood Laney, of Kinston, Nannette Sutton Barwick and husband, Hugh Barwick, of Cornelius, Robert Hardy "Sonny" Sutton Jr. and wife, Barbara Sutton, of La Grange; seven grandchildren, Frank Linwood Laney Jr. and wife, Cathy, Robbi Lynne Laney, Robert Dempsey Barwick and wife, Virginia, John Duval Barwick, Nancy Jo Barwick, Clayton Robert Sutton and wife, Dee, Marsha Leigh Turner and husband, Beau; three great-grandchildren, Nathan Robert Sutton, Benjamin Dempsey Barwick and Noah Frank Laney; step great-grandchild, Hayden Alexander Turner; two sisters, Audrey Herring and Verna Belle Ivey, both of La Grange; brother, Albert T. Sugg Jr. of La Grange.

The family will receive friends following the service today and at other times they will be at the home. Flowers are welcome or memorials may be made to Hickory Grove United Methodist Church, c/o Stanley Sutton, 1832 Sutton Shortcut Road, La Grange, 28551.
