United Way Days of Action to focus on special needs children

United Way of Wayne County will hold its annual Days of Action June 18 through 23.
In past years, volunteers have held food and supply drives for various organizations, cleaned areas of the county and even delivered Meals on Wheels. However, this year United Way is focusing on collecting items for local children with special needs, said Patty Graham, community engagement director.
"Children with special needs have other needs, so we wanted to see if we could help in that purpose," she said. "We're trying to get everybody on board with this. Anyone or any group can have a drive and bring the items to United Way."
Items being sought include lava lamps, glitter lamps, bean bags, water beads, kinetic sand, stress balls, anything squishy, play dough, timers, rainstick, kaleidoscopes, noise canceling earmuffs, textured items, yoga balls, aqua motion wave machines and gyroscopes.
Also, Etch-A Sketch, Newton's Cradle, perpetual motion toys, textured books, CDs, movies, toothbrushes, toy cars and trucks, unbreakable handheld mirrors, fidget spinners, crayons, colored pencils and coloring books.

Drop-off locations in Goldsboro are United Way office, Goldsboro Family YMCA, Goldsboro Family YMCA day care, Carolina Overhead Doors, Wayne County Public Library, Maxwell Center and Home Health and Hospice.
Drop-off locations in Pikeville are town of Pikeville office and the library.
Drop-off locations in Mount Olive are the library, Mount Olive Kiddie College and Mount Olive town hall.
The deadline for dropping off items is June 23, but United Way will take items the following week, too.
