Registered sex offender charged with statutory rape

A registered sex offender was arrested Thursday and charged with the statutory rape of an 11-year-old child in the western part of Wayne County.
Daniel Arthur Louk, 40, a homeless man from Cumberland County, was arrested by Wayne County Sheriff's Office detectives in Fayetteville.
Louk was charged with statutory sex offense of a child by an adult and statutory rape of a child by an adult. He was placed in the Wayne County Jail under a $1 million bond.
Wayne County detectives were able to find Louk and make the arrest with the help of the Sex Offender Registry Division of the Cumberland County Sheriff's Office.
The alleged offenses took place while Louk was living with the mother of the child, in Wayne County, from March through June 2016, said Capt. Shawn Harris, with the Wayne County Sheriff's Office.
According to the N.C. Sex Offender Registry, Louk was convicted in 1996 of attempted rape and two counts of indecent liberty with a minor. The offenses involved an 8-year-old child, in Pasquotank County, when Louk was 18 years old. He was released in 2006.
Harris said Louk was homeless when found by detectives in Fayetteville.
The N.C. Sex Offender Registry lists Louk's address at 207 E. Chestnut St. in Goldsboro.
