Chip Crumpler becomes assistant manager for county

Wayne County Planner Chip Crumpler has been promoted to assistant manager for the county, effective immediately.
Crumpler will continue his duties as planning director until a replacement can be hired.
Crumpler succeeds former assistant manager Craig Honeycutt who was promoted to county manager following the retirement of County Manager George Wood at the end of December.
Crumpler joined the county planning department in 2000.
He is a graduate of East Carolina University with a degree in urban and regional planning with a concentration in land use and transportation planning. He completed two internships with the county while still at ECU.
He also is a graduate of Wayne Community College.
In 2007, Crumpler was named as the geographic information system coordinator.
He was named interim planning director in 2015, following the retirement of Connie Price.
He was appointed planning director in 2017.
Crumpler implemented the county's online geographic information system.
He has extensive experience working with local, state and federal agencies, most recently with disaster recovery efforts across the county.
Crumpler is a member of First Presbyterian Church, Wayne Masonic Lodge and Sudan Shriners.
The county also has announced that Ryan Preble has been named to fill the new position of project management director effective Feb. 6.
He had been serving as chief information officer.
Preble will continue to oversee all information technology projects and be responsible for oversight of contract management, strategic planning and systems engineering.
Preble is a native of Mobile, Alabama. He served in the U.S. Air Force at Seymour Johnson Air Force Base.
He has a bachelor's degree in computer information systems from the University of Mount Olive and a master's degree in information technology with a concentration in project management from the University of Maryland.
He is completing a master's degree in business administration from the University of Maryland.
Preble also is enrolled in the UNC School of Government certified government chief information officer program.
He and his wife, Cari, have two sons.
