Police say man asked for his ID pulls marijuana from his pocket instead

A man suspected of having drugs in his parked car reached into his pocket to produce his ID for sheriff's deputies and instead dropped a bag of marijuana at his feet.
That is what deputies say happened Monday when members of the Wayne County Sheriff's Office Aggressive Criminal Enforcement (ACE) Team pulled into the parking lot of the Trade It on East Ash Street and smelled marijuana coming from a nearby car.
The deputies ran the tags of the car to identify the owner, and just as they had done so he came out of the store and approached the car, according to a press release.
The man, later identified as 28-year-old Jamil Mustafa Qadir Morgan, of Magnolia, also had a strong odor of marijuana "radiating from his person," the release said.
The deputies detained Morgan after the marijuana hit the ground and during a search they found powder cocaine in his pants pocket. A K-9, Hank, was called in and sniffed around the car. He alerted to the potential presence of drugs.
According to the release, that constituted probable cause for the deputies to search Morgan's vehicle in which they found powder and crack cocaine and packaging items the deputies believe were intended for the resale of the drugs.
Morgan was arrested and charged with possession with intent to sell or deliver cocaine, maintaining a vehicle for the sale or use of drugs, possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia.
He was placed in the Wayne County Detention Center and held under a $5,000 secured bond.
A passenger is described in the release of having been present at the car with Morgan, but no charges against another person were listed.
