Investigation underway after woman's body is found in home

MOUNT OLIVE -- A woman's body was found in a home Thursday during a welfare check conducted by Wayne County sheriff's deputies.
The woman's identity has not been released pending an autopsy report from the state medical examiner's office.
Deputies were conducting the welfare check at a single-wide mobile home 987 McArthur Pond Road at the request of family members of the property owner.
The man and woman in the house were renters, said Maj. Richard Lewis.
A man, who was home at the time of the welfare check, told officers that there was a deceased person in the residence.
Lewis said it was his understanding that the woman's body had been found in a bed in the home and that she had been dead for "a period of time."
Lewis said the man at the home suffered some kind of medical emergency while being questioned by deputies. He said he did not have more information on what the emergency was, but that the man had been released from the hospital.
Also, Lewis said he could not comment on the age of the man or woman, their relationship, the cause of death, or how long the body may have been in the home since that could identify them.
Lewis said the identity was awaiting on the medical examiner report that he expects to hear from on Wednesday.
The body was removed and transported to Wayne UNC Health Care morgue, and then later taken to the medical examiner's officer in Raleigh.
