A 61-year-old homeless man was arrested for hitting a Goldsboro police officer in the 100 block of North John Street Wednesday evening.
Ronnie Levi Barnes is charged with assault on a government official.
Cpl. Claude Jackson responded to the area in reference to a man harassing people at 115 N. John St.
Jackson arrived on the scene and spoke to Barnes, and a police report said Barnes allegedly walked up to the officer in a "threatening manner."
Jackson told Barnes to step back and put a finger on Barnes' chest. Barnes then allegedly used his left arm to hit Jackson's right forearm.
He was arrested and put in the Wayne County Jail under a $2,000 secured bond.
His first court appearance is Jan. 9, 2018.
