Starlight Dance Band to perform Dec. 1

Get your fanciest holiday outfit on and put on your dancing shoes for a Christmas concert by the Starlight Dance Band.
Dec. 1 the local band will perform its Christmas by Starlight event, something it has done for more than 30 years now.
Music will range from classic big band tunes like "Take the A Train" and "Tuxedo Junction" to Christmas favorites like "I'll Be Home for Christmas" and "The Christmas Song."
"This year the band is going to include some beach music in its repertoire," said Scott McConnaughey with the band.
"The audience is encouraged to dance, sing a long or just sit back and enjoy the music. Dancing can be ballroom, line dancing or whatever the mood moves you."
Dress ranges from formal wear to blue jeans.
McConnaughey said audience members at past concerts have ranged from children to seniors.
Hors d'oeuvres will be served.
It will be held Dec. 1 from 7 to 10 p.m. at Herman Park Center.
Cost is $10 per person payable at the door.
Starlight Dance Band partners with the Top Hat dancers of The Heritage Dance Foundation and Goldsboro Parks and Recreation to put on its Christmas by Starlight concert. It's supported by a grass roots grant from the North Carolina Arts Council and the Arts Council of Wayne County.
McConnaughey said Starlight Dance Band is a Wayne County-based big band with musicians from Wayne, Wilson, Lenoir and Pitt counties, including music teachers, professional musicians and talented amateurs with other professionals. But they all share a love of jazz and big band music.
The event is open to the public.
