The Goldsboro Police Department responds to the scene of a fatal shooting Tuesday night at 109 N. Herman Street. A black male, who has not yet been identified, was pronounced dead on the scene.

A Goldsboro man was shot to death in his Herman Street home shortly after 8:30 tonight.

Goldsboro police responded to the scene, at 109 Herman St., after receiving calls from area residents and a Shot Spotter report, said Capt. Paige Learnard, with the Goldsboro Police Department.

"We got multiple calls from citizens," Learnard said. "When we arrived on scene, the victim was dead."

Police strung yellow crime scene tape across the front and side of the property and extended the perimeter further down the block in front of several houses across the street.

The identity of the victim was not released, and Learnard was unable to confirm details leading up to the shooting.

Police are actively investigating the shooting, and no arrests have been reported.

Learnard said the victim was a black male but wasn't able to estimate his age. No one else inside the home was injured, she said.

A group of residents stood across the street watching police comb the scene and walk in and out of the house. One resident said he heard six or seven gunshots.

"I was in the house, just listening to my TV," said Debbie Hart, who lives across the street from the site of the shooting. "I went to bed and saw blue lights."

She learned from a neighbor that there was a shooting.

"It's been going on like this for 15 years," she said. "That house -- they call it a hot house."

In front of the house on a telephone pole is one of the city's 360-degree security cameras, which are located in crime-ridden areas of the city.

"I want to move," Hart said. "I think I'll have to move."

The deadly shooting is the city's 10th homicide this year.
