A man police say is a validated member of the Crips street gang is facing charges after allegedly assaulting and injuring Wayne County sheriff's deputies who were arresting him for cocaine possession during a traffic stop Tuesday.

Victor Devon Braswell, 28, of 106 Melodie Lane, is charged with felony possession of cocaine, obstruction of justice, two counts of assault on a government official, resisting, delaying and obstructing, injury to personal property and parole violation.

Deputies stopped Braswell at 1370 Old Grantham Road at about 11:24 a.m. Tuesday.

Authorities say he had cocaine in his possession and began violently resisting arrest while deputies were trying to take him into custody.

Both deputies involved in the arrest suffered minor injuries as a result of the altercation.

The Wayne County Sheriff's Office did not return phone calls seeking more information on the arrest.

Braswell was given a $100,000 secured bond on the charges.
