Troopers measure and document the scene of a fatal motorcycle wreck early Monday evening at the intersection of Dollardtown and Ditchbank Roads.

Authorities have released the identity of the man who died in a wreck on Dollardtown Road and Ditchbank Road Monday evening.

Billy Ray Bunn Jr., 40, of Chocowinity, was pronounced dead at the scene after he hit the back of an SUV on a motorcycle at the intersection of Dollardtown Road and Ditchbank Road, according to the North Carolina State Highway Patrol.

Sgt. Michael Dorsey said an SUV was stopped at the intersection of Dollardtown Road and Ditchbank Road, waiting to turn left, when Bunn hit the back of the vehicle.

"There is evidence to believe he was passing cars at the time of the crash," Dorsey said.

Dorsey said law enforcement believes Bunn was passing traffic in a no passing zone prior to the wreck, which is what led to him colliding with the back of the SUV.

Dorsey said the wreck was called out as a motor vehicle collision at 5:13 p.m.

In addition to the N.C. State Highway Patrol, El-Roy Volunteer Fire Department also responded.
