There is a less than 25 percent chance of tropical storm force winds across central North Carolina as Hurricane Maria moves past the state's coast over the next few days.

According to the National Weather Service in Raleigh, the most likely impacts from the storm will be breezy conditions with wind gusts up to 20-30 mph from U.S. 1 east and 15-20 mph west of U.S. 1.

Wind impacts appear very minimal.

While rain associated with Maria should largely be confined to the coastal region, a few showers will be possible as far west as Interstate 95, mainly late today through Wednesday.

There is a chance of showers, mainly after 3 p.m. today and tonight, mainly before 9 p.m., in Wayne County.

There is a slight chance of showers prior to 9 a.m. Wednesday.

Maria should continue to weaken to a tropical storm early Wednesday morning as it tracks northward, off the coast.
