Wayne County commissioners today will consider approval of an immersion video room at the Maxwell Center.

It would cost $130,973.

The county had planned on room in the Maxwell Center that will have a series of television panels (like large screen TVs) strung together to make one large screen.

The proposal would be for one large wraparound screen.

It would be used to display videos of agricultural processes to educate the public regarding agriculture.

The meeting will begin with an agenda briefing at 8 a.m.

The formal session will start at 9 a.m.

Both will be held in the commissioners meeting room on the fourth floor of the Wayne County Courthouse annex.

Also on the agenda are motions to:

*Approve a proclamation for Senior Citizen Month. Services on Aging Director Paula Edwards will also make a presentation.

*Approve a motion to give Wayne County Sheriff's Office retired working dog Shelby to her current handler to be kept as a pet.

In other business, Health Department Director Davin Madden will present the annual report from the local Child Fatality Prevention Team.

Commissioners also will be asked to approve a $140,000 budget amendment to the 911, sheriff and detention center software package.

"One of the features we wanted was a seamless fail-over capability to a backup system in the event of a power outage or server problem," County Manager George Wood said in a memo to the board. "This is critical because we cannot afford to have the 911 Center go down."

The software has the capability to provide for this, but the original proposal did not include the bridging software and additional hardware necessary to do so, Wood said.

"The solution is to purchase the additional software and hardware to give us this fail-over capability with a disaster back-up recovery component included," he said.

Public comments will start at 9:05 a.m. Speakers will have four minutes to comment on their topic of choice.

Items on the consent agenda are: applications for Disabled Veterans Exclusion, Elderly or Disabled Exclusion and Present Use Value; budget amendments; motion to approve a resolution to adopt the 15th amendment to the county's classification and pay plan; and motion to authorize tax refunds of $4,965 and $4,959.94.
