Goldsboro police arrested a man Saturday when he scared his neighbor by being armed with a gun.

Jammie Eugene Creekmore, 31, of 408  S. William St., is charged with going armed to the terror of the people.

A police report said Creekmore was in his neighbor's yard in the 400 block of South William Street armed with a shotgun.

The neighbor whose yard Creekmore was reportedly standing in called police and told them he had fired the shotgun.

ShotSpotter, the city's automatic gunshot detection system, covers the area but did not alert to any rounds being fired.

Maj. Dwayne Dean, head of the Goldsboro Police Department's Operations Bureau, said in an email, police found no evidence to support the shotgun actually being fired in the area -- but that doesn't mean it wasn't.

Officers got to the scene and the woman who called police pointed them in the direction of Creekmore's house.

They found a .22 caliber rifle on the front porch of his house.

Police then ordered Creekmore out of his home and took him into custody.

They found two .22 caliber rifles on the premises of the home. They did not find a shotgun.

"He was charged based on the victim being afraid while he was walking around outside holding (and) displaying the weapon in the manner he was," Dean said.

Creekmore was put in the Wayne County Jail under a $1,000 secured bond.
