A flash flood watch and wind advisory for Wayne County have been canceled.

And the originally predicted heavy rainfall of 3 to 5 inches has been downgraded to only light to occasionally moderate rain -- none of which is expected to result in flooding.

Between 1 and 2 inches of rain is possible near Goldsboro today.

The rain will gradually move northeast from the central part of the state by early to mid-afternoon.

The flood watch and wind advisory were issued by the National Weather Service in advance of the tropical weather system moving along the North Carolina coast today.

As of 8 a.m. this morning the storm was moving northeast past the Cape Fear River near Wilmington.

A tropical storm warning is still in effect for the coastal area from Surf City to Duck.

The flash flood watch also remains in effect for areas east of Wayne County.

Wind gusts of 25 to 35 mph are expected today with the highest from Clinton to Goldsboro to Tarboro and points east.

The potential impact includes isolated power outages from downed limbs on power lines.

The area will get a break from the rain tonight through about noon on Thursday when the chance of rain and thunderstorms return and linger through Saturday.
