65-year-old is arrested for stabbing man in neck, chest on Slocumb Street

A 65-year-old man is facing charges after allegedly stabbing a 25-year-old man in the chest, neck and head early Saturday morning at 308 S. Slocumb St.

John Ed Hobbs, 65, of 310 S. Slocumb St., is charged with felony assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill inflicting serious injury.

A police report said the victim, identified as Devin Charles Singleton, was sitting inside a car behind Hobbs' house when Hobbs stabbed him multiple times at about 1:44 a.m. Saturday.

Officers found Hobbs at his house after the incident and arrested him.

Both Singleton and Hobbs were taken to Wayne UNC Health Care for treatment of injuries sustained in the fight.

After Hobbs was released from the hospital with minor injuries, he was put in the Wayne County Jail under a $100,000 secured bond.

Georgia Dees, director of public relations for Wayne UNC Health Care, said Monday morning Singleton had been released from the hospital.
