Man charged in a string of local breaking and enterings

The Morehead City Police Department arrested a man this week who is allegedly connected to a string of local breaking and entering cases stretching from mid-February to late March.
Devonta Rasheed Sutton, 17, of 308 S. Carey St., LaGrange, is now facing a total of 18 felony charges.
Morehead City police arrested him for felony larceny from a person, felony possession of a stolen firearm and felony breaking and entering a motor vehicle.
They then became aware he was wanted on additional charges out of Wayne County.
Sutton was then also charged with four counts of felony discharging a firearm into an occupied residence, three counts of felony breaking and entering, two counts of felony larceny, two counts of felony possession of stolen goods, two counts of felony possession of burglary tools, felony conspiracy to commit breaking and entering and felony obtaining property by false pretense.
Sutton was put in the Carteret County Detention Facility under a $174,000 secured bond.
The charges out of Wayne County stem from a few different break-ins that happened on Feb. 14, March 23 and March 23.
During the break-in on March 23 in the 1400 block of Parkstown Road, the people involved realized a neighbor had seen what they did and shot at him, hitting the neighbor's house several times.
A press release said about $2,000 worth of property was taken in the Feb. 14 break-in in the 2300 block of New Hope Road.
During the March 24 incident in the 100 block of Old Jason Road, nothing was taken. But, the people who tried to break in were surprised to find a woman and chid inside the home, and fired a shot toward the house as they fled. They hit nothing.
Four other people were arrested and charged in May in relation to these incidents.
Tamiria Nachelle Younger, 17, and Khadafi Kameek-Montrez Barnes, 17, both of Kinston, were also charged in this case along with Shvonta Drequantre Hart, 18, of LaGrange and an unidentified 15-year-old juvenile.
Each of the four people arrested in May were charged with one or more counts of felony breaking and entering, attempted larceny after breaking and entering, larceny after breaking and entering and possession of stolen goods.
All four were also charged with four counts each of discharging a firearm into occupied property.
The Wayne County Sheriff's Office detective and patrol divisions and the Lenoir County Sheriff's Office patrol division worked alongside the Morehead City Police Department in making these arrests.
