A Mount Olive area woman has been charged with simple assault in connection with a Saturday night, Aug. 12, brawl.

Vicky Reyes, 23, of 216 School Branch House Road, is charged on a warrant with one count of simple assault.

She was placed under a $1,000 unsecured bond.

The brawl took place around 11:30 p.m. Aug. 12 at Maynard's Entertainment, 5504 N.C. 55 East, Seven Springs.

"It was not a public event," Wayne County sheriff's Detective Capt. Shawn Harris said. "They had rented the facility out for a wedding."

The 24-year-old victim, who is from Wilson,  did not report the incident until two days later on Monday, Aug., 14, Harris said.

She told officers that she had been at a party when a "big fight" broke out with a second victim's relative.

Harris said he did not know the relationship of the two victims or the second victim and her relative.

The first victim said while trying to get victim two's relative into a car to leave, the crowd moved toward them and started assaulting them.

She said about 20 people were fighting and the only one she could identify was Reyes.

Harris said off-duty deputies, who had been hired as private security at the wedding, broke up the fight.

The people who had rented the building told those involved in the fight to leave, Harris said.

The victim said she went to hospital where she was told she possibly had bleeding on the brain and needed to report the incident.

She was told about the warrant process and the report was taken over the phone, Harris said.

Harris said he did not have any additional information about the fight or what sparked it.
