Heat advisory is in effect beginning at noon today as humidity reaches 100 percent

Full SizeIt could feel like 106 degrees in Wayne County because of 100 percent humidity and actual temperatures in the mid-90s.
A heat advisory is in effect for most of central North Carolina from noon until 6 p.m. today.
Hot temperatures and high humidity will create a situation in which heat illnesses are possible. Drink plenty of fluids, stay in an air-conditioned room, stay out of the sun, and check up on relatives and neighbors.
A few severe thunderstorms producing wind gusts over 60 mph are possible late this afternoon through the evening, with that risk any time between the hours of 2 p.m. and 10 p.m.
Hail up to the size of quarters is also possible, along with locally heavy downpours producing localized flooding.
While all of central North Carolina could see thunderstorms at some time today, the area north of Wayne County has the best chance to see severe thunderstorms.
According to the National Weather Service, there is a 30 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms after 2 p.m. and overnight and into Saturday.
