County under flash flood watch

Wayne County and most of central North Carolina is under a flood watch with flash flooding possible today through early Tuesday morning.
Periods of heavy rain are expected today and tonight with rainfall amounts of 3 to 5 inches expected with local heavier amounts possible.
Flash flooding is possible in low-lying or poor drainage areas.
According to the National Weather Service office in Raleigh, flooding of local creeks and streams can be expected while water levels in main stem rivers will rise.
The Neuse River is expected to rise throughout the week climbing to 15.8 feet by late Thursday night. The flood level is 18 feet.
Showers are expected throughout the day Monday with a high near 68 degrees with a northeast wind of around 11 mph with gusts as high as 23 mph.
Showers and possibly a thunderstorm are expected tonight, some of which could produce heavy rainfall.
More showers with thunderstorms are possible after 2 p.m. on Tuesday. There is a slight chance of showers and thunderstorms Tuesday night before skies clear on Wednesday.
The forecast calls for clear to partly cloudy skies throughout the weekend with temperatures ranging from the upper 80s to near 90 degrees.
