People at a duplex apartment watched a man allegedly attempt to break into several cars early this morning.

According to a Goldsboro Police report, Andrew Casey Hanner, 29, of 112 Woodside Circle, checked doors of six cars while witnesses observed him in a parking lot in the 700 block of South Harding Drive around 2 a.m.

Hanner attempted to break into five vehicles, but a witness told officers Hanner did enter the sixth vehicle and sit in the car. The person said he was sure the vehicle did not belong to Hanner, according to the report.

Capt. Paige Learnard could not confirm how many people watched Hanner check the vehicles.

"It doesn't mean they were all there, and they weren't all outside," she said. "It was witnesses at the building."

The report said Hanner tried to break into a 2017 Hyundai Santa Fe, a 2013 Chevrolet Cruze LT, a 2013 Buick Encore, a 2004 Toyota Camry LE, a 2002 Mazda Protege and a 2004 Chevrolet Malibu.

Learnard said officers could not confirm if Hanner was trying to steal a car.

"It appears that he was possibly rummaging through cars," Learnard said.

Hanner is charged with breaking and entering a motor vehicle and five counts of attempted breaking and entering a motor vehicle

According to the report, Hanner placed in the Wayne County jail and given a $30,000 secured bond.
