A 15-year-old is accused of selling drugs during a basketball game at Spring Creek Middle School Thursday evening, according to a report filed with the Wayne County Sheriff's Office.
A deputy working a basketball game at the school was approached by the school principal, Thomas K. Smith, the report said.
Smith told the deputy he suspected that a student was selling drugs in the gym and had suspected the student of doing so "for some time," according to the report.
Smith then went and confronted the student with the deputy and escorted the student to the office.
The student then told Smith he had drugs in his bookbag, the report said. Smith opened the student's backpack and found about 13 grams of marijuana, Swisher Sweet cigars and a $100 bill, according to the report.
The student's mother was called to the school and took custody of the child.
The report does not specify whether the student was charged with a crime.
Sheriff Larry Pierce said if charges are filed in the case, they must go through the juvenile petition process first.
