Police have no early leads in the homicide of 26-year-old Tyreek Dominick Moody, who was shot and killed in the 400 block of South Hollowell Street early Wednesday morning.
Goldsboro Police Chief Mike West said police responded to a ShotSpotter alert of seven shots being fired behind 422 S. Hollowell St.
According to an incident report, police responded around 1:30 a.m. and were on the scene in less than one minute and immediately began conducting a foot patrol of the area.
On the scene, officers found Moody, of 914 Chestnut St., Fremont, with a single gunshot wound to the head, the report said.
"It didn't look like he was running or had been fighting or anything," West said.
West said Moody's body was found lying outside the back door of 422 S. Hollowell St.
Prior to Moody's murder, police responded to a ShotSpotter alert of shots being fired into a house at 408 S. Leslie St. at 11:54 p.m. Tuesday, around an hour and a half before Moody was killed.
Officers were on the scene in less than one minute in that incident, also, and found three people were inside the house at the time of the shooting.
None of them were injured.
Police encountered one person walking out of the front door when they got to the scene and discovered a bullet hole in the house's screen door.
Officer spoke with the person and learned the bullet damaged the wooden front door, screen door and a couch cushion inside the house, according to an incident report.
Despite the proximity of the incidents, West said police do not believe the two are connected in any way.
"I read that report this morning and immediately tried to make that connection and I don't see anything indicating that they are connected," West said.
West said while officers were on the scene of Moody's murder rapidly, they did not see anyone in the area or fleeing the area that they believe to be responsible for or connected to his death.
Moody's killing marks the first murder of 2017.
There were 11 homicides in 2016, which is the highest homicide rate since 2012, according to uniform crime report data.
There are no suspects in Moody's murder at this time, and the killing remains under investigation.
