The North Carolina Highway Patrol responded to 40 wrecks in Wayne County over the weekend during the wintry storm that passed through the area.

First Sgt. Jerry Burton said troopers handled 40 crash calls, eight stranded motorist calls and three calls of cars being left in the roadway from Friday at 6 p.m. through Monday morning.

Burton said most of the calls troopers responded to during the weekend could be chalked up to road conditions caused by the weather.

"Most every one of them can be attributed to the weather," Burton said.

None of the wrecks resulted in any fatalities or serious injuries of any kind, Burton confirmed.

"It was either minor property damage or we didn't take a report (on the wreck) at all," Burton said.

Burton said most of the wrecks during the weekend happened on rural, two-lane roads in the county.
