It is currently 29 degrees in the area surrounding Seymour Johnson Air Force Base, according to the National Weather Service.
Snow and ice accumulation overnight fell on the low side of early prediction models which forecast anywhere from 1 to 6 inches in the area between Friday night and Saturday afternoon. But, with less than an inch of snow on top of about a quarter-inch of ice and sleet, Wayne County is not out of the woods yet.
The weather service indicates another .01 to .03 of an inch of snow is possible after 2 p.m. today. And although the forecast high has been reached -- 29 degrees -- winds will continue to blow through the area ranging from 16 to 18 mph throughout the day, making things feel between 5 and 10 degrees colder .
The N.C. Department of Transportation shows no road closures in the county, nor has it indicated there will be any to come. Crews began as early as Thursday brining main roads in the area.
City street maintenance crews are on 12-hour shifts throughout the weekend to monitor conditions in Goldsboro, according to a news release. Salt and sand have been and will continue to be spread as needed over known trouble areas including bridges and hills, the release said.
