Gov. Pat McCrory announced Wednesday the state is offering a reward of up to $5,000 for information leading to the arrest and conviction of whoever killed Deyelle Morrisey near 300 Rollingwood Drive on Nov. 23, 2015 -- a case that remains unsolved.
Gary Morrisey, Deyelle's father, is also offering a $5,000 reward, and the Wayne County Sheriff's Office is offering a $3,000 reward.
Deyelle was 15 when he was murdered. He was found lying in a back bedroom of the residence suffering from a gunshot wound, and was pronounced dead on scene.
According to a press release on the reward being offered by McCrory, a white Chevrolet Impala was seen near the scene and two men were seen getting out of the vehicle and going behind the house on Rollingwood Drive.
Gunshots were then heard and the two men were seen running back to the car, the release said.
Maj. Tom Effler said the sheriff's office sent a letter requesting the reward from the governor's office and they were notified Wednesday they had received the money.
Capt. Richard Lewis said the letter was sent June 24.
"It's a letter that gives a brief synopsis of the incident and a request for the reward," Lewis said.
Effler said since Morrisey's death, investigators have developed multiple leads, but none have resulted in an arrest.
"We have got some leads that have been worked to the end, we just haven't gotten enough to push it any further," Effler said. "There has been an investigation into what might have occurred, but no charges have been filed yet."
