Goldsboro police say the man who allegedly killed Windom Levi Elliot in a hit-and- run accident Saturday night is now in custody.

Larry Donnell Miller, 41, of 209 Dillard St., turned himself in to police after officers were able to track him down thanks to a tip from the community, according to a news release. Miller is charged with failure to maintain lane control, felony hit and run, misdemeanor death by motor vehicle, misdemeanor failure to give aid to a person injured and a stop sign violation.

According to the release, Miller was driving a dark blue, 2005 Ford F-150 truck when he hit Elliot on a service road near America's Best Value Inn on U.S. 70.

Miller's truck matched the description provided by the person walking with Elliot at the time, and the truck had damage on the right front side where the truck allegedly hit Elliot.

Maj. Anthony Carmon said someone contacted the police with Miller's information. He said the police called Miller, and he arrived at the police department to turn himself in Wednesday night.

He said the police department wants to thank the public for their calls to provide information in the investigation.

Miller was charged with felony hit and run, misdemeanor death by motor vehicle and misdemeanor failure to give aid to person injured.

He is being held in the Wayne County Jail under a $35,000 unsecured bond, and his first appearance is scheduled for today, the report said.
