A fire at 503 Eunice St. Thursday afternoon just before 5:30 p.m. sent the elderly woman living there to the hospital for smoke inhalation.
Firefighters received the call about the fire at 5:23 p.m. Thursday, and had the fire out by 5:31 p.m.
Assistant Goldsboro Fire Chief James Farfour said the fire started when the elderly resident was cooking something in a pot on the stove and left it on too long.
Farfour said the fire damaged the kitchen and cabinets above the stove, and that the entire residence had smoke damage.
"The fire and burn patterns were consistent with a stove fire," Farfour said.
The residence next to 503 Eunice St., 501 Eunice St., did not sustain any damage because of the fire, Farfour said.
The elderly resident reportedly inhaled the smoke from the fire when she went back inside her home to retrieve her oxygen tanks that were inside.
Farfour praised the Goldsboro firefighters' quick response.
"As always, they had a very quick knock down of the fire and did an excellent job responding quickly," Farfour said.
Goldsboro Fire Department Engines 1, 3 and 4, and Ladder 1, and Wayne County EMS responded to the fire.
